A GROUP of suspected burglars were arrested by police after staging an escape near Moss Bank Park yesterday.

Police confirmed that one of the trio of men was detained by a groundsman near the park after suspicions that they were involved in a burglary at an address in Church Road, Smithills, in early afternoon.

However, while waiting for police to arrive at the scene, the remaining two men returned and all three suspects ran away in the direction of the park.

After conducting a search of the park area and Johnson Fold estate, officers arrested three males in separate locations on suspicion of burglary, with one also arrested on suspicion of affray.

The men were caught running from police on Gisburn Avenue, Moss Bank Way and Bowland Drive.

Greater Manchester Police has all three suspects in custody and investigations are ongoing.
