CREWS are dealing with a second wildfire on the moors above Bolton after a blaze broke out near Horrocks Moor.

Crews were initially called to multiple fires on the hills, near to Scout Road, at 2am on Friday morning.

Six fire engines tackled the flames throughout the night and this morning just two crews remained on the scene dampening down hot spots.

However, due to the intense heat and dry weather, the fire, flared up again early this afternoon.

It currently measures approximately 2km in length.

Ten fire engines and about 50 firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) are currently dealing with the incident.

Helicopters have also been seen collecting water from High Rid Reservoir in attempts to control the flames.

People are advised to stay away from the area and nearby residents are asked to keep their windows and doors closed where possible.

It comes after more than 50 firefighters tackled a fire close to the radio mast on Winter Hill yesterday.

A 22-year-old man from Bolton was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the blaze.

Lancashire Police confirmed they had made an arrest as they carrying out a joint investigation into the cause of a fire, which broke out yesterday afternoon

Fire crews are continuing to tackle the blaze which broke out yesterday.

The origin and cause of the fire remain unknown.
