TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Mayoress of Bolton following her death at the age of 84.

Eileen Riley was the wife of the late Cllr Gerald Riley, who served as Mayor between 1991 and 1992.

A retired nurse, Mrs Riley worked at the Hulton and Royal Bolton hospitals.

She was mother to Janet, Jill and the late Lynne, all of whom followed in her footsteps by entering the nursing profession.

Mrs Riley was also a grandmother-of-three and also had four great-grandchildren.

Retired councillor Noel Spencer knew Mrs Riley from his days representing Halliwell.

He said: "She was a lovely lady, really really lovely, and I have fond memories of both her and Gerry.

"It was during my times as ward councillor for Halliwell, we used to meet up regularly in the clubs.

"We had a couple of Labour clubs there at the time and we used to get together pretty much every week and she would be having a dance and things like that."

The funeral service for Mrs Riley will take place at Overdale Crematorium East Chapel on Thursday at 2.15pm.

Family flowers only are requested by donations for the British Heart Foundation will be kindly accepted.
