A TRAIN driver was assaulted at Bolton railway station this afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 3.45pm when a train travelling toward Manchester Victoria was stopped in Bolton.
Passengers were forced to leave the vehicle and officers from the British Transport Police escorted them onto the platform, before allowing them to board another train heading towards Manchester.
The station remained open, although passengers were told via the speaker system that the driver had been assaulted.
The status of the driver is not clear, although North West Ambulance Services confirmed that no ambulance attended the scene.
