BOLTON is putting itself on this year's music festival circuit.

Teenagers have organised a rock and indie concert for under-18s.

Headling the gig next month is local, and newly signed, band Our Fold.

The music extravangza will take place on Friday, November 2, at Horwich Leisure Centre.

The event has been organised by a group of girls, calling themselves the Ravin Rockers. They are members of Youth Express youth club in Horwich and approached the bands, organised the venue and equipment.

They also successfully bid for £1,000 from The Prince's Trust to organise future events for young people.

Senior youth worker at Youth Express, Neil Prendergast said: "The project initially started out as a rain drenched conversation in a doorway whilst on an outreach session in Horwich and developed rapidly into a clear and determined plan to provide themselves and other young people from within their peer group something to get involved in and something which would be their own project."

Organisers are Shimane Sunderland, Nadine Higham, Rachel Jackson, Sarah Holden, Abby Wiggans, Hayley Seddon, Holly Higham and Sophie Johnstone.

Abby, aged 15 said: "This is such an incredible opportunity for us. I am so happy, not only about arranging this night, but about giving people who like our music and our scene somewhere to go and something to do. "

She added: "On the night local bands including Our Fold will perform and they will be supported by DJ and promoter Death to the DJ. Many people and groups including Greater Manchester Police, SERCO Leisure Ltd, Connexions, Rivington and Blackrod Sixth Formers, Bolton Music Collective, the bands and Death to the DJ have provided the time, energy, equipment and work to help this evening come alive. To those people the young people and staff at Youth Express are thankful for their great enthusiasm to the arrangement of this evening."

Tickets for the event are available from Youth Express and are priced at £3.00 each. For more information or tickets please contact Neil Prendergast (01204) 334395 / 07825 608936 or alternatively on neil.prendergast@bolton.gov.uk
