There are still a couple of months left before spring blooms, so why not treat yourself to this winter's trend, a knit. A fashion trend which is practical as well as stylish and no, knits aren't just for your gran. Whether it is cardigan, jumper, dress or accessories, you can't deny that the fashion world's gone wild for the woolly stuff.

From chunky, duvet like woolies that are perfect for a lazy Sunday to striking, cable detail tunics and cardi-coats that are smart enough for work - the key is to wear it large. Go for huge button detail, puff sleeves and interesting twists on classic yarns for a bit of wit with your knit!

Cool cardigans

Is it a cardigan or is it a coat? Who cares, one of this season's hottest trends, the "cardigan coat" is versatile for indoor or outdoor use and a great alternative to your usual coats of previous years. Buttoned or zipped, long or cropped, girlie or mannish - no matter what the detail, just make sure your cardigan is big as possible if you want to be in with the winter way.

There are a few rules when buying a cardigan coat. If you are petite, try to avoid the longer style knits as these may make you look drowned. Instead, opt for a shorter fluffy friend and team it with high heels for a touch of winter sexy sheek. If you are a tall lady, you can pretty much get away with everything, so go for long and voluminous! Also, remember to add a belt to the longer cardi to give you shape.

Try this cardi-coat from Monsoon for £75. It's made from 50 per cent lambswool and 40 per cent angora so will keep you as snug as a bug in a rug. Or if you prefer a shorter cardi get to River Island for this cable knitted shorter cardi for £34.99.
