Chuck out those thermal undies, glamour is back in a big way.

At Prada, in their best collection for several seasons, spring/summer will be all about chiffon dresses and printed silks, toughened up with messy make-up and seriously dominatrix shoes, while Alexander McQueen took a route of more traditional glamour, with strong 1940s influences, hourglass sillhouettes and dresses that promise a whole new life of romance and adventure.

And the designers at Dorothy Perkins were obviously thinking the same when they came up with this gorgous midnight blue creation, which adds one of next season's favourite details - ruffles - to the mix. This navy frill dress is £40, with the knot belt coming in at £8.

How about this ruffle dress at £80 from Debut at Debenhams. Team it with this Red Herring silver bangle with jewel at £10, also from Debenhams Ruffles were also a big hit on the Warehouse spring/summer 2008 catwalk so you'll be sure to find something to suit your needs.

Gold and fuschia will be the colours to be seen in, while nude tones (from peach to beige) remain as popular as ever, and are surprisingly flattering on winter-pale skin tones - just think of Nicole Kidman.

The good news is that with such a high-octane look, the statement jewellery you invested in before Christmas is still so on trend, although it's always worth digging through some flea markets to find vintage pieces to team with pretty dresses - try turning cameo brooches into a new necklace with some gorgeous ribbon, or embracing the bling with fabulous cocktail rings.
