A DRIVER caused chaos after attempting a U-turn on a motorway at rush hour after heading the wrong way up a slip road.

His Range Rover smashed in to a Renault Scenic in the outside lane as he tried to correct his mistake close to junction 9 on the M60 at about 7.30am.

Two vans were then involved in the pile-up.

Police believe the driver had entered the motorway by driving up the exit sliproad and tried to turn across three lanes of traffic.

He has been reported for dangerous driving.

The driver of the Renault and three people who were travelling in one of the vans were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Motorists faced chaos after the crash caused the closure of two lanes on the anti-clockwise carriageway.

Delays were caused on the clockwise side of the M60 by drivers slowing as they passed the scene.
