NO doubt most employees would love an extra Bank Holiday - after all, whoever turned down a paid day off work?

Equally, most employers would probably object to staff having another paid Bank Holiday in addition to the eight we already have.

But our entitlement pales into nothing when compared to the 18 bank Holidays Slovenia has or the 16 days enjoyed by Spaniards.

It is obvious why travel agent Thomas Cook is leading the campaign with TV adverts to have an extra day off - they are hoping people will spend more on holidays.

But if we did have an extra day what date should we celebrate? Perhaps Bolton South-east MP Dr Brian Iddon is right when he suggests Veterans Day on June 27?
