HOTELIERS and others in the hospitality sector are being warned that they will be targeted by Government inspectors in the coming year to ensure they are paying employees the minimum wage.
Bolton based Bentleys Chartered Accountants issued the alert.
Managing partner at the Chorley New Road-based firm, Ray Darby said: "We are reminding clients that failure to comply with the regulations surrounding the national minimum wage constitutes a criminal offence, punishable by a heavy fine." In October the changes to the national minimum wage were made, resulting in the current hourly rates being set as follows: 16-17 year olds should be paid at least £3.40; 18-21 year olds £4.60 and 22 year olds and older £5.52.
