Widnes West Bank 14 Bolton Mets 26

NW Counties Division Four BOLTON Mets kept their cool to complete the double this season over their Merseyside adversaries in a heated encounter.

Bolton took advantage of poor Widnes discipline to kick a penalty to take a 2-0 lead in the first few minutes, only for the home side to reply with a try.

Both sides tore into one another, the Mets' defence led by Jon Atherton, but gradually Bolton's determination and composure paid dividends as hooker Neil Walsh crashed over for a try and then winger James Harper finished off an expansive attacking move to dive over in the corner.

Successful conversions and another penalty extended the lead to 14-4 at half time. The Mets continued to attack well after the break.

Hard-running prop Ryan Terry broke through several tackles to touch down after 10 minutes and winger Harper latched onto a sweet pass from Walsh to score under the sticks and bring his individual points total to 18 with the conversion.

Bolton then tired, and West Bank replied with two tries and were in danger of creeping back into the match.

Bolton stuck to their task, however, and eventually held out to record a comprehensive victory.

Mets have no match this weekend.
