Gary Megson is still waiting for the go-ahead from Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp, before making the next move in his bid to bring Matt Taylor to the Reebok.
Wanderers and Premiership rivals, Sunderland, have both agreed a £3million-plus fee with Pompey for the versatile left-sider. But Redknapp is refusing to let him leave until he has secured reinforcements for his own squad, which has been depleted by African Nations Cup calls.
Reading are also believed to be interested in the former England U21 international but Wanderers are still regarded as favourites to secure his signature.
"We've got an agreement with Portsmouth that was finalised between the two clubs on Thursday," Megson said.
