GARY Megson is hoping Chelsea take "no" for an answer and drop their interest in Nicolas Anelka.
The big-spending Londoners are still confident they can tempt Wanderers to sell their 11-goal top scorer, despite having an initial £11 million bid rejected.
But Megson is keeping his fingers crossed that the negotiations break down and Anelka stays at the Reebok to spearhead the fight for Premiership survival.
"Nic's been in here and we've spoken about the situation we are all in," Megson said.
"We just agreed that there was not a massive amount that he could do or I could do. It's just between the two clubs on whether they can get an agreement.
"I'm still hopeful that they can't and that Nic stays here."
