A DOCUMENTARY about honour killings featuring the story of an entire family who died in a fire will be shown on BBC1 this week.

Bolton-born Caneze Riaz and her four children all died in a blaze at their home in 2006.

The fire was started by Mrs Riaz's husband and the father of her children, Mohammed Riaz.

Mr Riaz, aged 49, locked and bolted the doors, poured fuel around the family's Accrington house and lit several fires while they were asleep.

They died in the fire and he suffered 65 per cent burns, dying in hospital two days later.

Relatives and friends of the family told police a bitter rift had developed between conservative Muslim Mr Riaz and his wife over her determination to bring up their children with western lifestyles.

The way in which he killed his family has led to some suggesting the deaths were so-called "honour killings".

Mrs Riaz's brother, Barry Khanan, who lives in Astley Bridge, will speak of the family's devastation in a documentary to be screened on BBC1 tomorrow night at 10.35pm.

The documentary was first screened on BBC3 last October.
