Department store chain House of Fraser yesterday delivered strong festive trading figures.
Like-for-like sales for the five weeks to January 3 were up 2.4 per cent on last year despite a tough retail environment.
Margins were also up at the privately-owned group, which has 61 UK stores, thanks to fewer sales days.
The festive sales growth was in excess of the UK average of 0.3 per cent reported by the British Retail Consortium.
HoF was bought for £351 million in 2006 by Highland Acquisitions. Its new management team has targeted more upmarket customers, thrown out underperforming brands and started a store refitting programme.
Chairman Don McCarthy said: "The strong Christmas period has been a superb end to effectively our first year in control."
