A PERVERT who sexually assaulted a paramedic as she treated him for head injuries has been jailed for four months.

Keith Baines, of Moss Bank Way, Bolton, fell over in a pub toilet and cut his head on Boxing Day.

An ambulance was called to the Hope and Anchor pub in Chorley Old Road where he had been drinking.

As the female paramedic treated him in the ambulance he put his arm around her and was warned about his behaviour.

Bolton Magistrates Court heard that he then sexually assaulted her.

Bains has a history of violence and the police attended along with ambulance crews, but the incident was not reported until the next day.

He was arrested on Friday, December 28, at his home.

The court heard Bains told police that he remembered of drinking in the pub, falling over, and the ambulance being called, but not the offence.

David Clarke, prosecuting, said at an earlier hearing: "He sexually assaulted the paramedic, then sat back smiling and said she looked like Lara Croft."

Baines pleaded guilty to the offence at court on Tuesday and was sentenced to four months in prison. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

His behaviour has been condemned by the ambulance service.

Delwyn Wray, Area Director for Greater Manchester, said: "This was an appalling assault on a member of our staff who was only trying to do her job. As you might expect, she found the incident to be very traumatic.

"Our ambulance crews face verbal and physical abuse in the course of their work on an almost daily basis but thankfully incidents as extreme as this are very few and far between.

"However, we take all assaults of our staff very seriously and will push for all offenders to face the consequences of their actions and to be brought to justice.

"We are very pleased that Keith Baines has received a four month custodial sentence."
