TWO thieves who stole copper piping and radiators appeared in court yesterday.

Andrew Pilling and Martin Sparrow took the items from Westland Avenue, Farnworth, on June 7 last year.

Bolton Crown Court heard they were arrested at the scene charged with theft by finding and other offences.

Pilling, aged 30, of Parkway Grove, Little Hulton, stole a laptop from Starlight bedrooms in Farnworth on March 20.

He also broke into a house on Church Street in Farnworth and stole a power washer and a bicycle from the garage on April 21.

Lisa Bakker, prosecuting, read a statement to the court from the owner of the house, Beverley Burns.

She said: "Since this happened I have felt uneasy and that someone could come back.

"It upset me that a stranger has been in my house while I was in. The most distressing part is that I have two young children who could have disturbed him and caused them upset."

Sparrow, aged 25, of Barnes Close, Farnworth, stole gardening equipment from a property in Stoneclough Road, Kearsley.

The pair were sentenced by Judge Ashley Murray at Bolton Crown Court.

Pilling was given a total of six months which he will serve on top of the custodial sentence he is already serving.

Sparrow was given a four-month sentence which has been suspended for a year. He was also given a 12-month supervision order.
