WANDERERS winger Xav Amaechi has stepped up his recovery after having surgery to repair a fractured metatarsal.

Amaechi – who has represented England at Under-20 level - joined the Whites on loan from German side Hamburg over the summer.

However, he is yet to make his competitive debut after picking up the injury in a pre-season friendly against Preston.

Ian Evatt confirmed the former Arsenal youngster had been back running on the Alter-G treadmill last month.

This morning, the winger shared a picture of his football boots on his Instagram page, writing: “we back”.

The Bolton News:

Amaechi’s current loan deal runs out in January but Evatt has admitted he would like to keep him at the UniBol for longer.

Speaking in August, the Bolton boss said: “It has been a challenging time for him but he has stayed positive and is looking to get back to fitness and a place in our first team, which is what we want.

“He was enjoying his time and I think he will again. He’s a fantastic young man and has a wise head on his shoulders.

“We hope he will be back before January and we’d like to keep him for longer but there are a lot of things that have gone into the deal. Xav himself sacrificed a lot of his salary to come here.

“There are conversations to be had and they have started, but right now he needs to focus on his rehab and we will give him all the support he needs.”
