TRIBUTES have been paid to a woman who cared for hundreds of people in Bolton when they need it most.

The family of Hilary Slack have received lots of messages of support and wishes after the sad death of the 70-year-old.

She died at the Royal Bolton Hospital on August 14 and the funeral of the much-loved grandma, mum and wife to Alan, took place on Monday at Overdale West Chapel.

Hilary went to Brandwood School in Deane and lived in Deane all of life.

Daughter Jennifer Wharton said: “She trained as a midwife but put a hold on taking her exams but she was a registered general nurse.

“She was a school nurse then worked in the Parks and Recreation department at Town Hall.

“It is funny as I went into a similar job in Stratford-Upon-Avon where I live.

“She went back into nursing at Newlands Nursing Home in Chorley New Road, and then Rivington View in Horwich.

“She would always phone the families of people in the home and stayed with them and held their hand in their last moments.

“She cared for a lot of people in Bolton and had a very caring personality.

“In 2016, she had bowel cancer operation and had been struggling for six years. In the last two years she had some complications from the op.

“She got septicaemia. She was not very mobile but she always stayed in touch with people on Facebook Messenger and we have had lots of messages saying how she looked after people.

“She was a lovely kind thoughtful lady.

“The funeral directors Deighans were amazing and made the whole funeral process easier with a lot of respect.

“The nurses at the Royal Bolton Hospital gave us privacy and respect to mum.”

Jennifer added that Hilary supported charities including Donkey sanctuary, Hedgehog rescue and the RNLI.

She said: “She never swam but she told us you never know when you may need them and people that she loved to go in the sea and they may need them.”

Hilary was married to Alan for 49 years and she loved Llandudno.

Jennifer said: “We are going to be scattering her ashes and we are going to be scattering her ashes there in the spring.”
