National Highways has issued a warning to drivers ahead of a number of motorway closures in the North West of England.

A spokesperson for the organisation shared notice of the overnight closures via the National Highways: North-West Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon (September 20).

The planned closures for each major route will be in place between 9pm on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday (September 21) and drivers will need to plan their trips accordingly.

These are the closures drivers need to know about:

  • M6 southbound between J26 (Orrell Interchange) to J23 (Haydock Island)
  • M56 westbound J5 (Manchester Airport) to J8 (Bowdon Interchange)
  • M57 northbound J1 (Tarbock Interchange) to J2 (Forest House)

The M6 southbound closure is part of the motorway upgrade scheme. You can find out additional information via the National Highways website here.
