An artist has drawn on his hometown's beautiful landscape as inspiration for his next collection.

The paintings are designed to highlight Bolton's beauty.

Born and raised in Bolton, Nick Taylor has been an artist for 30 years, having studied fine art at university and taught art at The Manchester College for 17 years.

Throughout August this year he underwent a ‘100 Paintings in a Month’ project, focusing on the landscapes of Bolton.

Nick created each of the paintings from the back of his pickup truck at various scenic locations around the town, including Rivington, Moses Gate Country Park, Old Kiln Lane, Scout Road and more.

He said: “I was at my studio, thinking of the next project. I saw a couple of landscape pieces I’d previously done.

“I don’t know how it came to me, but I thought would an easel fit in the van.

“It all clicked really, I did it in the back of the van, it was summertime and there was great weather throughout August.

“It gave a better view than a typical landscape artist would get, as you can get higher up.”

Nick’s work is now on show at a Market Place unit on Corporation Street in the town centre, and will be displayed until December 10.

He spoke about why he created 100 paintings in a month, saying:

“It was basically to motivate myself to produce as much work as possible to make the work more dramatic, rather than too thought out.

“I didn’t want it to be too realistic, I wanted it to be more instant, capturing the essence of a certain place.”

He highlighted why he chose to draw the landscapes of Bolton, saying: “I don’t think it gets much mention, it doesn’t get enough credit.

“There’s so much beauty around Bolton in terms of landscape, you’ve got Rivington, Moses Gate Country Park in Farnworth has plenty of areas to walk.

“My main reason was I feel here’s been a lot of negative talk in the last few years in Bolton. I was a teacher in Manchester, and I don’t think people outside of Bolton appreciate what it has to offer.

“I would take my teacher friends around Rivington, I think it surprises a lot of people.

“There’s a lot of potential within the Bolton area and Bolton people. I think I wanted to get positive about Bolton in general.”

All pieces on display at the Market Place are original oil paintings by Nick Taylor, and all are for sale.
