Art work from Ramsbottom school pupils has gone on display as part of a royal celebration that links the town to "10 monarchs and eight coronations".

Pupils from Peel Brow Primary School on Fir Street attended the formal opening of the Ramsbottom Heritage Societies new exhibition, "10 Monarchs and 8 Coronations", where their art work is now on display.

This is the first time school children have contributed to an exhibition and the society say they gladly welcome all their hard work.

Matilda, 11, who has had her drawing of King Charles displayed, said: “I have always liked art and I find it so much fun.

“It’s nice to see my drawing hung up here, I like being able to point it out and let people that it is my work up there.”

Nine pupils from the school were chosen to draw portraits of King Charles which are now on display at the Gallery on the first floor of Ramsbottom Library.

Headteacher at Peel Brow, Debbie Christiansen, said: They have been very excited to come and see their work, we practically skipped down from school.

“We jumped at the opportunity to help with the exhibition and then picked nine children whose work would be put on display.

“These were chosen either because they are very talented artists or they have wowed us in school with their passion and by meeting out values.”

Chairman of Ramsbottom Heritage Society, Kate Slingsby, said: “The display links Ramsbottom to events in the town and nationally from the reigns of George III to Charles III.

“George III’s coronation in 1760 was over 20 years before Ramsbottom became a town and Edward VIII was never crowned at all, hence the rather strange title of the exhibition.”

The exhibition includes memorabilia from each monarch, details of past royal visits, and the way history has shaped Ramsbottom though the ages.

Thursday: 12.30pm – 7pm

Friday: 10am – 4.30pm
