The view would be very different if you stood in this spot today. This photo, from the mid-1950s was taken from Thomasson Park looking over Brownlow Fold and towards Astley Bridge.
Most of the landmarks you can see have long been demolished including the Back-o’th--Bank power station and the various mills and chimneys.
The spire peeping over the top of the mill building on the left of the picture belonged to Blackburn Road United Reformed Church.
