The Bolton News: Kearsley demolition 1988

Environment minister David Trippier pushed the button to send the six chimneys crashing down to earth.

Over 1,000 people gathered to watch as the chimneys - each standing 325 feet high - were toppled.

The power station opened in 1929 and was later extended, closing in 1980.
