A Lancashire pub has been named among 20 of the best hotels, pubs and B&Bs that cost under £150 a night in a list by The Guardian.

Under the category 'pubs with rooms', sits The Inn at Whitewell in Lancashire.

In the extract from the new Good Hotel Guide, The Guardian has chosen “places to stay with great cuisine, chic interiors and scenic walks from the front door”.

The Guardian found that double rooms at The Inn at Whitewell cost from £145 per night for B&B.

Visitors can look forward to a “deeply traditional” manor house “with oodles of atmosphere”, according to the newspaper.

The Guardian added: “Local ales are served in the flagstone bar, and diners can look forward to impressive meals under long-serving chef Jamie Cadman, whose Whitewell fish pie is legendary. There is also an onsite wine shop.”

The bedrooms at The Inn are said to “overflow with charm and eccentricities, with antiques, deep sofas, books and art.”

Those who stay at The Inn can be joined by their furry friends as dogs are allowed in all bedrooms, many of which have working fires.

Some even have “four-poster beds and Victorian cabinet baths.”

One reviewer wrote: “Spent three nights at the Inn. Such an amazing experience, possibly the best atmosphere in the country. All the modern comforts but a walk back in time in terms of manners and friendliness of the the team . Wonderful food and an amazing wine list, log fires, perfect rooms ( I tried two rooms as extend the stay) - simply the best experience. Cant recommend it enough.”
