The Bolton News: Today a trip across the Atlantic is almost commonplace. Not so in 1966 when this photo was taken of a group of Bolton folk flying off for a holiday to the States and Canada.

The trip made front page news. The party were setting off from Ringway - now Manchester Airport - on a holiday organised by the Bolton Evening News.

During their transatlantic adventure, the party would be visiting Montreal, Toronto, Washington, Boston and New York.

They had all met up the night before flying out at the Swan Hotel in Bolton to discuss their plans. The holiday was so unusual that the Evening News even flew a reporter out with the party to report on their travels.
