Green Cross Code man in Bolton 1978
Hundreds of excited youngsters were in Bolton’s shopping precinct during the summer holiday of 1978 for a visit by the Green Cross Code Man.
Actor turned road safety superhero Dave Prowse was in town as part of the Co-op Superstore’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The former British weightlifting champion who also starred as Darth Vader in the record-breaking Star Wars films was the centre of attention.
Child-sized zebra and pelican crossings were set up in the town centre as he showed groups of youngster the safest way to cross the road before signing autographs.
