Nineteen days after a blizzard brought much of Bolton to a standstill in 1940 this was the scene on the Bolton-Horwich-Chorley road at Anderton.
It was still only passable as a single track road as drifts were blocking much of the road and had frozen solid making it impossible to clear them.
You can see one intrepid motorist barely squeezing his car between the piles of snow.
