A poignant photo from 1963, the year Dr Beeching announced his savage cuts which closed many services and with them stations around the country.

The Bolton News: Horwich Station, 1963

This was Horwich Station, one of those that fell victim to the cuts. The home of the famous Loco Works, Horwich Station would see 20 or more trains arrived or departing each day bringing the 600 railway employees to and from work as well as being the starting point for many Horwich folks’ wakes weeks specials heading off to the coast.
