Here’s an interesting photo from the archives to test your knowledge of Bolton.

The Bolton News: Looking down Manor Street, Bolton, 1952

Taken in 1952 it shows the junction of Folds Road looking down Manor Street.

A lonely policeman, complete with white gloves stands in the middle of the road to direct traffic although it doesn’t look as though it was needed judging by this photo.

Behind him you can just make out the premises of Thomas Moscrop and Co, manufacturers of the famous Lion Oils brand. On the right is Naylor’s Printers and next to it the Dog and Partridge Hotel.
