It was described as one of the heaviest loads ever to leave Beloit Walmsley’s factory on Crompton Way in Bolton.
In February 1992, this 189 ton Yankee paper dryer began a 10-hour journey to Liverpool. From there it would go to a paper mill in Austria,
The dryer was part of a £12 million order for a complete toilet tissue machine - the widest ever built by the Bolton company.
To carry the monster machine, a low-loader 32-metres long was brought in, with 192 wheels!
The load had a police escort and the journey was planned on a Sunday to minimise disruption to other road users.
