An early photograph shows that roadworks in Bolton town centre have been occurring for more than a century.
We believe this photo of the top end of Deansgate is from the 1920s and shows a work gang – complete with ties and waistcoats – preparing to lay some new setts or cobbles.
The buses in the background give an idea of the age of the picture both from their design and also from the fact that they had solid wheels.
