A bar's new look is proving to a be a real hit with customers after undergoing a stylish transformation by an interior designer to the stars.

The clubhouse at Tonge Cricket Club has been refurbished, with its members' lounge and function room having undergone a transformation. 

Committee member and interior designer, Dawn Hindley, redesigned the clubhouse. 

She has designed the interiors of celebrity houses.

Dawn said: "I did all the designing, we wanted it to look expensive but had limited budget. We are chuffed with the outcome, the feedback has been amazing.

"The function room, that had to be done in a way that works for different kinds of bookings, such as funerals, parties and weddings for example. 

"For the members' lounge, it was a cold and uninviting place, with dark wood, we wanted to make it a place where members felt they didn't want to leave, and everyone has been blown away by the difference.

"I have done celebrity houses, such as Steven Gerrard and the Rooneys, but this is a complete change in budget, and it was my first time doing a public venue." 

The club says that membership has increased since the refurbishment, and that interest in sports there has also increased.

Chairman, Gareth Oliver, said: "We have had increasing membership, a lot more people are coming in, and an increase in bookings for functions, parties, anniversaries, christenings, funerals and so on." 

They have also hosted weddings and weddings anniversaries, as well as other types of events. 

He added: "The benefits of being a member is cheaper bar prices, reduced fees for functions. The social aspect is particularly good, during summer watching the cricket. 

"We have a really positive, functioning committee, people with different backgrounds, skills and knowledge, it has brought quite a lot to the club, a lot of input from the community.

"There has also been increased activity and participation in cricket. The junior section is thriving, teams of all age groups. 

"Two of our players are currently in Australia, practising for when the cricket season comes back."
