For many visitors to Rivington, The Village Green Tea Room is the first choice for many.

So, it is not surprising that it has been listed as the 'People's Choice' in the Family Business Awards.

The Village Green Tea Room is popular with visitors and was named the best café in Lancashire.

Now it has been shortlisted as a finalist at the Family Business Awards, in the ‘people’s choice’ category.

Co-owner Jade Tolen said: “It’s the 'people’s choice', and people enjoy coming in, so I think that’s why we were nominated.

“It’s amazing, we could not ask for any better, it was just unexpected and nice.

“It would be brilliant if we won especially after we already won one last year.”

The Village Green Tea Room is open all spring and summer with the team.

Jade said: “It’s going really well this year.

“We thought it would be a quieter year, but we’ve been really busy.

“We’ll get busy over the Easter bank holiday as well because people will go up the pike then come in afterwards.”

Since the café is dog-friendly, it is perfect for people looking to take a good walk with their Dogs and sit down to enjoy a light bite to eat too.

There are 50 seats outside alongside a soon-to-be installed memorial bench for former chef, Brian Turner, who died in December after suffering from lung cancer.

Jade said: “The bench will be installed on Wednesday so we can sit and talk about Brian on it.

“It will also be his birthday, so it’s a good time for it.”

Brian worked for 13 years as a chef at the popular Village Green Tea Rooms and was known for making pies, quiche, and the ‘Brian special’ BLT with mayonnaise, as well as organising the tearoom’s Christmas dinners.

The Family Business Community Awards North West will take place in May 10 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The awards celebrate small or big family businesses in the community who are loved by their communities and hold a 'special place in their hearts.'

It is a chance for people to support the business they love the most.
