Market day in Westhoughton and the prams were out in force in this photo from 1962.
From the limited view we have via this photo, it certainly looks as though the market sold a wide range of goods ranging from bags to household cleaning items - you can just see tins labelled Persil and Ajax.
At the back of the market was a sweet stall offering fruits and mints for a shilling (5p) a quarter or chocolate caramels for one shilling and threepence.
