A leaked Department of Health document, marked restricted, exposed the true extent of cuts being driven forward because of the mis-management of the service.

The document reveals that Ministers are trying to claw back the NHS deficit by shedding 37,000 staff, almost twice as many as previously predicted. The financial mis-management of the NHS has led to the largest deficits in its history.

The document also states by 2011 that the NHS will be short of 14000 nurses and 1200 GP's because of the cuts to the NHS education and training budget which is an absolute scandal. The fact that the document says that we will be short means that they still believe they will need them.

No one can deny the amount of money that has been pumped into the NHS since 1997 but we have to question has it been spent wisely?

The NHS needs to be given independence from the incoherent and inconsistent commands delivered by the Department of Health so that of Health professionals can deliver the best care for the patients they serve.
