Top products to see you through the rest of summer Personally, I hate wearing foundation in the summer; it leaves my pores feeling clogged and my skin greasy. However, my skin does usually need a bit of help to achieve that ‘natural’ flawless complexion.
With an SPF of 25, Bobbi Brown Extra Tinted Moisturising Balm (£32) protects the skin, while rehydrating it and evening out the skin tone. It does feel quite thick when you first apply it, but you soon forget it’s there, as it quietly infuses your skin with super-moisturising ingredients such as shea butter, Vitamin A, carrot extract and chamomile oil.
After a day fighting off rays, your skin needs some TLC. Treat it to Yes to Carrots C Through the Night (£8.99, Debenhams). Paraben free, this night cream’s superhero ingredient is carrot oil, an intensely moisturising anti-oxidant. It’s also packed with beta-carotene, Dead Sea mud, minerals and organic fruit extracts. Even better, you’ll feel positively saintly buying it, as a portion of every sale goes towards providing equipment, vegetable seeds, irrigation support and technical assistance to help communities in the developing world to become more self sufficient.
If the British weather is proving a wash-out, give yourself a boost with Elemis Exotic Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt (£29). Along with smelling just like summer should do, this body oil smoothes even the driest skin, and leaves you with a subtle glow. You can even use it as an intensive hair treatment.
For perfect nails this summer, you need The Nail Doctor Rescue Me (£8.99) nourishing base coat and nail hardener. Try it for two weeks and I guarantee you’ll notice a difference. The last thing you want on holiday is to be reapplying your varnish every two days, so lock it in place with Kiss Colour Magnet (£6.99).
Even the best waterproof mascaras aren’t 100% pool protected, so my top summer tip has to be an eyelash tint. Get it done professionally, or pick up Colorsport Dyelle Black (£7.25, Boots). Ask a friend to help out; while this kit is supposed to be DIY, it’s pretty fiddly.
Dashing from the beach to the bar? A sweep of lipgloss will ensure you look cocktail ready. This summer, I’m loving Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect (£16), which does exactly what it says on the tin and comes in four holiday-inspired shades.
Finally, other than a great quality, high SPF sun cream, the most important beauty product this summer is good old H2O. Drinking plenty of water will keep your skin fresh, help prevent hangovers (which, let’s face it, are never attractive), and make you feel healthier inside and out.
