DRINKERS embarked on a three legged race to raise money for charity.

Couples tied their legs together and hobbled from Bromley Cross to Egerton as part of a fundraising pub crawl to collect cash to send volunteers on a mercy mission to West Africa.

Sammie Banks, aged 19, of Torra Barn Close, Egerton, is one of six volunteers from Bolton who will be flying to a village in Benin, for four weeks in February. International charity Hands Around The World, is sending the volunteers to help villagers rebuild their school after it was demolished by floods.

The six volunteers need to raise £12,000 by Christmas to fund their travel and accommodation.

The race began at the Flag Inn, Hardman’s Lane, Bromley Cross, at 1pm.

Participants walked down Arnold Road to Darwen Road, and called into the Dunscar Arms for a swift drink before continuing to Blackburn Road and stopping at the Masons Arms, The Thomas Egerton and The Cross Guns.

The winning team won a barrel of beer from Bank Top brewery.
