A FAMILY doctor’s surgery will open late to allow as many people as possible to take part in The BIG Bolton Health Check.

Waters Meeting Health Centre will be open between 1pm and 8pm tomorrow.

The surgery is also inviting patients from seven other practices to come along and take part in the 10-minute potentially life-saving assessment.

Paula Jeffries, practice nurse co-ordinator, said: “This event enables practices to work together to give their patients more choice about when and where to have a health check.

“As health professionals we want to help patients to access health information and be empowered to make healthy lifestyle choices.”Practice nurses, health care assistants and health trainers will be on hand to check blood pressure, cholesterol, work out patients' BMI and give advice on alcohol, diet, exercise and stopping smoking.

The GP practices involved are Astley Brook, Avondale, Ladybridge, Market Surgery, Little Lever, Great Lever and Derby.
