KEVIN Nolan scored the goal that gave Wanderers their first win at White Hart Lane in 44 years, but it was Jay-Jay Okocha who stole the show.

The Whites’ inspirational captain hit the woodwork no fewer than three times in a virtuoso performance that had Spurs reeling and dented caretaker manager David Pleat’s hopes of securing the job on a permanent basis after picking up the reins from Glenn Hoddle.

The talismanic Nigerian had two shots crash against Kasey Keller’s crossbar – the second a free-kick that deflected off his team-mate Per Frandsen – before one of a catalogue of long-range efforts forced a fumble from the American keeper, from which Nolan knocked in the winner to give Sam Allardyce’s men only their second win in 11 games.

There was still time for the amazing Okocha to cap an afternoon of brilliance and frustration by hitting the bar a third time.

Tottenham Keller, Carr, Taricco (Blondel 64), Doherty, Richards, Anderton, Poyet (Postiga 45), Konchesky, King (Mabizela 86), Keane, Zamora.

Wanderers Jaaskelainen, Hunt, Charlton, N’Gotty, Gardner, Campo, Stelios (Pedersen), Nolan, Frandsen, Okocha, Davies.
