MORE than 62,000 people have taken part in The BIG Bolton Health Check, according to latest figures released by Bolton Primary Care Trust.

Health bosses want to check everyone in the borough aged over 45 to identify those at risk of heart disease.

A bid to get all 88,000 over-45s in Bolton tested was launched in June in conjunction with The Bolton News. At that point, 41,500 people had taken the test. By the end of November the number had risen to 62,056.

The simple 10-minute test, which includes blood pressure and cholesterol checks, as well as lifestyle questions, has identified 17,000 people with more than a 20 per cent chance of developing heart problems in the next 10 years.

They are now on primary prevention registers and are receiving treatment or have been advised to make lifestyle changes to reduce their risk of developing heart disease, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Anyone over 45 is entitled to The BIG Bolton Health Check by contacting their GP’s surgery.
