This year the flared jean is back with a bang, yet the leg is more structured, perfect for showing off if you’ve got slim pins.

Tapering out to the ends, it’s much more subtle than the trends of yesteryear.

Check out Next for all your fashion fixes. These high waist jeans come in at £28, the striped cardigan at £22 and the tan wedges at £40.

Staying with the footwear, you’re going to need to invest in a pair of platforms in order to really pull off this trend. These green beauties are perfect. At £50 from New Look they are slightly more expensive than you’d usually expect from the store, but they are limited edition so you’ll not feel so much of a clone on the high street.

Two tone is everywhere on the catwalk, so that’s that box ticked and the hint of mock croc is all you need to bring the trend up to date. Team with your jeans or try denim hot pants if the sun does come out this year.

The swinging 60s still had influences going through the decades and none more so than in the 70s. And, although mini skirts were top of a girl’s wish list, they sometimes are just not practical. So here we have this full skirt in this season’s top shade — coral. With a jacquard pattern to give it a softer edge, the hint of 70s is still there. At £30 it seems a steal, considering you’ll be able to wear it all summer. Team with a vest top for the day, or stick on a shirt and some round toe shoes for the office.

A wardrobe staple which you can’t afford not to buy is a tan bag. This tasselled version is at the high end of the budget at £89 from Marks and Spencer, but the unusual detail justifies it. With rope detail on the handles and splashes of pink throughout. This will be your “go with everything” bag, great for all occasions.

Jumpsuits have had mixed press the past few years and not everyone can pull them off. This one from Wallis is subtle enough for you to wear the trend, yet not as obvious as other designs. In navy it makes a change from black and the waistline detail creates the illusion of separates.

Grab yours for £60 and team with different tops, for example crisp white shirt underneath for work or throw on a cardigan in a contrasting colour if you’re feeling bright.
