WITH Tottenham next up at the Reebok, Andy (Golborne White) recalls a previous meeting when the two teams topped the old Second Division and victory for Wanderers went a long way towards clinching promotion back to the top flight

THIS was a memorable game for me as I remember my dad getting excited, like one of the lads.

Roy Greaves scored four minutes from time as we beat Spurs and, as we were walking back up Manny Road, my dad said to me “We’re goin’ up!”

The win had, I think, put us four points clear at the top of Division Two. At the end of the season we did go up – winning promotion at Blackburn and being crowned champions at the final game against Fulham at Burnden.

Although seasons of the late 80s and 90s could have outshone the 70s era, I have always said that when Roy Greaves scored that goal it was my best moment as a Bolton Wanderers supporter.

My dad unfortunately died in 1995 – three days before the football season began with Wanderers playing their first ever game in the Premiership, away to Wimbledon.

Down the years I have always remembered this moment watching Bolton Wanderers as being a great reflection of my dad’s life. He introduced me to Wanderers in 1974 at a game against Portsmouth, which we won 3-0. Paul Jones scored twice.

I particularly remember Neil Whatmore scoring the equaliser at Goodison Park in the League Cup semi-final.

These were great times as a youngster watching Bolton.

The teams for Andy’s memorable match were: Wanderers: McDonagh; Nicholson, Dunne, Greaves, Jones, Allardyce, Morgan, Whatmore, Walsh, Waldron, Worthington.

Spurs: Daines; Naylor, Holmes, Hoddle, Osgood, Perryman, Pratt, McNab, Moores, Duncan, Taylor.

Attendance: 32,266.
