THE countdown is on to a celebrity charity football match in aid of Bolton hero firefighter Steve Morris.

Kick off is 1pm on Sunday when some famous names will be taking on a crew from Salford Fire Station to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The All Stars team will include The Royal Family’s Ralf Little, Andy Whyment who plays Kirk in Coronation Street, Hollyoak’s Nick Pickard, Will Mellor, from Two Pints of Lager, and DJ Mike Sweeney.

Mr Morris, a firefighter based at Bolton Central, suffered 50 per cent burns trying to rescue a family from a fire at their home in Great Lever in June.

The blaze, in Little Holme Walk, claimed the lives of 71-year-old Hameeda Begum and her four-year-old grand-daughter, Alana.

Mr Morris spent five months in Wythenshawe Hospital’s specialist burns unit and is now recovering at Chorley Hospital.

Gary Dewar, Fire Station Commander at Salford and Mr Morris’s brother-in-law, will attend the match. He said: “Steve knows about the match and is very humbled and touched that people are thinking of him and going to these lengths to help him and it’s great for his family to see.”

The match will take place at Salford Sports Village in Littleton Road, Salford.

Tickets — £10 for adults, £5 children — are available by contacting 0161 908 9703, from Bolton and Salford fire stations or you can pay on the day.
