CHEW Moor Brook suffered heartbreak in the final of the LFA County Cup.
Liam Carr put the Bolton side deservedly ahead at the County Ground, Leyland, after 20 minutes when he broke clear and finished expertly.
They wasted two good chances before being hit by a sucker punch a minute before half time when a deflected shot led to a scrambled Preston equaliser.
The goal changed the pattern of the game, and Preston came out a different side after the break, capitalising on mistakes in the CMB defence to deservedly race two goals ahead.
Carr scored his second goal of the match with a scrappy effort a minute from time, but it was too little too late for CMB.
Manager Steve Thompson said: “I was really proud of the lads for getting this far, but the better team won on the night.
“After dominating the opening period of the match, once we got the all-important goal, we relaxed and stopped playing our stuff, and the timing of their first goal, just before half time, changed the shape of the game.”
