BSF Winter Rounders

DIVAS finished top of the Eagley Winter Rounders League by such a clear margin that, with a week still to play, they were able to declare against Eagley Pike Ladies on Sunday.

But the runners-up spot is still up for grabs with three teams – BB Belles, Davies XI and Redgate – all in with a chance The Belles are in pole position and need only to beat Parceline in their final game to finish second. But, after a miserable start to the season, Parceline have come good in recent weeks and on Sunday they declared against Darcy E.

Davies XI, currently lying third, remain in contention despite losing by 23 runs to the Belles but Redgate are hot on their heels after beating Darcy Blues by 17.

Nothing is certain though, as was demonstrated in the Farnworth League when two of the chasing teams unexpectedly lost.

The Farnworth League will have a play-off to decide second place in Section B behind Wallys Eleven. Blades Barbers and Elton Vale B play at 10.30am on Sunday to settle the issue.

Thirteen teams contested the Farnworth League’s end-of-season Charity Tournament at Farnworth Cricket Club on Sunday in miserable conditions which saw the competitors subjected to bitter winds, hail, rain, sleet and snow. Despite the conditions, the players stuck it out and raised £230.

The teams played in three groups, with Adlington and AJs winning their three group games and meeting in the semi-final, which Adlington won 80-52.

The second semi paired Wallys Eleven and BYP B, who were winners and runners-up in a larger group. Wallys won that match 84-56 but, despite a sterling effort in the final, lost 77-50 to an Adlington team which included players drawn from much higher league sections.
