CHARITY shop volunteers burst into tears when they arrived for work to discover their fifth break-in in two years.
The front window of the Home Farm Trust shop, in Ridgeway Gates, Bolton, was smashed, leaving shards of glass on donated goods after thieves tried to get into the shop overnight on Tuesday.
Manager Kath Rigby believes the would-be thieves were disturbed and ran off before they could steal anything.
However, the damage will still cost the charity hundreds of pounds to replace the window and the loss of stock which will have to be thrown away.
Mrs Rigby said: “I arrived for work to find our volunteers crying. It is just disgusting. Who in their right mind would break in to a charity shop? I am really stuck for words.”
