VOLUNTARY groups have two weeks to bid for a share of thousands of pounds of cash.

The Gannett Foundation, a charitable trust set up by Gannett — the media company which owns the Newsquest Media Group, including The Bolton News — gives millions of pounds to good causes every year.

It gives grants of up to £50,000 to worthy projects which are registered charities and address local community needs and issues.

The foundation gives priority to projects which would be of lasting benefit to the local community, youth schemes and those for people with special needs, as well as conservation, sport and local history schemes.

It does not fund salaries or running costs, nor does it give grants to schools — unless they cater for children with disabilities or complex needs.

Anyone who has received funding from the charity in the past two years is not eligible.

Application forms are available from Lisa Schofield at The Bolton News offices, Churchgate, by calling 01204 537345.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, March 25.
