Jason Donovan, Australian heart-throb for young British girls, paid a 20 minute visit to Bolton’s Ritzy’s nightclub to perform songs from his new album, Ten Good Reasons, in1989.

At the age of only 20, the star inspired much screaming and hysterical weeping among the 1,300 fans who packed into the nightspot. Some had queued for 10 hours to see him on stage.

Jason was top of the bill in the Coca-Cola Hitman Roadshow, organised by pop record producer Pete Waterman.

The crowds were entertained by a host of rising stars from the Stock, Aitken and Waterman stable including The Reynolds Girls, who had a hit with I’d Rather Jack, Girls Talking, Shooting Party, Big Fun, Johnny Otis and Sonya.

But it was Jason, dressed in jeans, white shirt and jacket, who stole the show, producing the kind of audience reaction which hasn’t been seen since the days of Beatlemania.

But it was all over too soon for the fans, who then had to be content with watching him on TV’s Neighbours.
