MEMBERS of Bolton’s first police flying squad teamed up again in May 1979 — more than 50 years after they first patrolled the streets.

They were among 200 members of the old Bolton borough police force who met at the Doffcocker Inn for a reunion celebration.

Ex-Sgt Gerald Rigby, aged 75, and ex-PC George Hodgson, aged 74, both seated in the centre of the picture, were two of the first Bolton bobbies to use transport — an AJS motor bike and a side-car. They said they were known as “courtesy cops”.
